Gas stove and hob repairs across Gauteng
A stove that sparks but will not light, burns unevenly or will not keep its flame needs the right diagnosis. We assess burners, ignition controls and flame-failure components before recommending work.

When the flame looks wrong
A stable gas burner should light and burn consistently. A flame that lifts off the burner, burns irregularly, leaves soot or changes suddenly needs inspection. Stop using a burner that behaves abnormally; the solution depends on burner condition, available air and the correct gas supply for that model.
How we distinguish ignition from supply faults
A click at the electrode does not establish that adequate gas is reaching the burner. Likewise, a burner that lights using one method but not its built-in spark may have an electrical ignition fault rather than a gas-flow problem. We inspect the burner, controls, electrodes and other relevant assemblies according to the model and symptoms.
When several burners show the same abnormal behaviour, we consider common systems rather than replacing each burner component separately. Gas supply and regulator work requires the appropriate registered professional; we do not encourage homeowners to adjust pressure or dismantle fittings.
Why a hob can click without lighting
A clicking electrode only tells us that a spark is being attempted. We still need to establish whether the burner head is properly seated, whether its openings are clear and whether the correct gas flow reaches that burner. If every ring has stopped working at once, we assess common causes instead of treating each ring as a separate failure.
Repairing rather than replacing the whole stove
Many faults are limited to serviceable components such as an ignition electrode, switch or damaged burner part. We check model compatibility, the condition of controls and any signs of heat or corrosion damage before advising whether a repair is sensible. A defective flame-safety system must be restored, not bypassed.
What different flame symptoms can tell us
When the spark is audible but nothing lights, we first determine whether the symptom belongs to one burner or the entire hob. We also ask whether the appliance was recently cleaned, whether the burner components are seated correctly and whether any flame appeared before the failure. Those details help determine what should be inspected without assuming that the spark electrode itself is defective.
A weak flame that changes when another burner is used may require checks different from a single flame ring with an incomplete pattern. If gas delivery, regulator operation or connections are implicated, the appropriate registered practitioner must undertake that work. We never recommend a customer change the regulator setting to compensate for poor combustion.
Information to provide before an assessment
Please send the make, model, number of affected burners and a photograph of the hob if possible. Tell us whether the ignition clicks, whether the flame remains alight, and whether the issue started after cleaning or moving the appliance.
Questions customers ask
Should I keep using a hob with a yellow, sooty flame?
No. Stop using the affected burner and arrange an inspection. Sooting or unstable combustion can have several causes, and changing a regulator without diagnosis is unsafe.
Can you help with combined gas and electric cookers?
Tell us which part of the cooker has failed and share the model number. A gas hob with an electric oven needs a different assessment from a fully gas-fired cooker.
