Gas geyser and instantaneous water-heater repairs

No hot water, repeated ignition attempts or a shower that runs cold halfway through? We assess the heater alongside the water-flow conditions that trigger and sustain operation.

THE FAULT MATTERS

Why a geyser runs hot then cold

Instantaneous gas water heaters generally start only when sufficient water passes through them. A restriction at one outlet can resemble a geyser defect, while a shutdown at every outlet can point to ignition, flame detection or another safety or control issue. We check which pattern matches your appliance.

Instantaneous heaters respond to water demand

Unlike a storage tank, an instantaneous gas water heater normally fires when water flow reaches its activation requirement. The heater can switch off if flow falls below its operating threshold or if an internal protection detects an unsafe condition. We check the reported sequence and model to distinguish water-side, ignition, sensing and combustion concerns.

We also establish whether the unit has enough capacity for the outlets being used. A heater that is undersized for simultaneous demand may be operating as designed; fitting a replacement ignition part would not correct that limitation.

Separating water-supply restrictions from ignition faults

An instantaneous geyser may not start if the flow through it falls below the model’s activation requirement. A restricted showerhead, changing mains pressure or a tap that mixes in too much cold water can create symptoms unlike a failed burner. We compare the reported behaviour at different outlets before suggesting an appliance part.

Shutdowns and the appliance safety circuit

If a heater lights briefly and then stops, the fault may involve flame monitoring, overheating protection, ventilation, water flow or electrical controls depending on the model. Repeated resets do not remove an underlying hazard. We identify the displayed error and shutdown sequence before discussing whether a repair is appropriate.

The symptoms that change the diagnosis

A gas geyser that does not ignite anywhere is different from a unit that fires when a bath tap opens but will not heat a low-flow basin tap. We ask about both hot-water temperature and the volume of water coming through the outlet. That distinction matters because an apparently cold-water complaint may be related to the flow needed to trigger an instantaneous heater.

If the heater repeatedly fires and cuts out, we also ask about displayed codes, external ventilation arrangements and how long the burner operates before shutting down. We treat persistent shutdown as a fault requiring assessment rather than encouraging repeated resets. Water and gas components are inspected only within the appropriate qualified scope.

Information to provide before an assessment

Let us know which hot-water outlets are affected, whether the burner starts and how long it stays on. A photograph of any visible error code and the rating label can be helpful without opening the appliance.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions customers ask

What should I send before an appointment?

The heater make and model, any fault code, and whether the problem occurs at one tap or all outlets. Please do not remove the casing.

Does a bigger geyser automatically fix temperature fluctuations?

No. Capacity matters when several outlets demand hot water, but inconsistent supply pressure or a malfunctioning heater can produce similar complaints. We establish the actual cause first.
