HOW WE CAN HELP

Understanding the oven fault

A freestanding gas cooker may combine gas burners, an oven, electrical ignition, a grill and thermostatic or electronic controls. These functions can fail independently, and an apparent whole-cooker fault may involve one shared subsystem. Identifying the cooking functions that still work is the fastest way to clarify the enquiry.

Hob rings ignite but the oven stays cold

A working hob does not confirm the oven’s ignition, thermostat or flame-supervision system. Tell us whether the oven clicks, starts a fan or briefly lights before shutting off. The oven may have separate controls and safety devices that need model-specific assessment.

The oven works but some top burners fail

When the oven heats as usual and only one ring misbehaves, the burner assembly and local ignition path deserve separate attention. If several top rings are affected simultaneously, the investigation changes. Do not change injector sizes or interfere with a supply connection to make one burner match another.

Ignition fails only after a spill

Liquids entering the knob and spark-electrode area can coincide with ignition problems. Tell us whether the appliance clicks continuously, does not spark at all or works again intermittently. Avoid removing the control fascia or applying heat directly to wiring or gas valves in an attempt to dry the internal parts.

Oven temperature changes while the hob stays normal

The oven chamber, seals and temperature regulation differ from the open hob burners. Document whether cooking has become slower, uneven or interrupted by flame loss. A temperature complaint should not immediately be treated as a fuel-pressure problem just because the cooker uses LPG.

Moving the cooker to clean behind it

Freestanding cookers can be connected in different approved ways and may have restraints or clearances required by the installation. Do not pull a connected appliance forward in a way that strains hoses, fixed pipes or wiring. Mention if the cooker was recently moved and the fault began afterward.

Controls that do not shut off are urgent

A knob that spins loosely, a valve that cannot turn or a burner continuing after the off position requires stopping use and appropriate prompt assistance. Repairs to gas-safety components must not be improvised. A faulty plastic control is not automatically the same as a defective valve; proper diagnosis matters.

Enquiry details for a combined cooker

Provide the cooker make, model and all affected functions, noting which burners still work and whether the oven uses electricity for ignition or a fan. We can then discuss a suitable assessment and which authorised technical scope may be required. Any dangerous gas or combustion concern must take priority over routine booking.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Answers before you book

Can the hob work while the gas oven has a separate fault?

Yes. A cooker can have independent ignition and control arrangements.

Is it safe to pull the cooker out to inspect the hose?

Not without appropriate consideration of approved connections and restraint.

Should I change gas jets to restore a weak flame?

No. Metering components must match approved gas type and appliance specifications.
